IFFI is the only film festival in South Asia that is accredited by International Federation of Film Producers' Associations (FIAPF) of the 44th international festivals in the Competitive Feature Films Category. Since its inception in 1952, IFFI has been curating spectacular films from all over the world. Its goal is to provide a single platform for ambitious filmmakers, cineastes, and industry professionals to have access to excellent cinema from across the world. Since 2004, IFFI has moved to its permanent venue at Goa, where it is jointly organized each year by National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Government of Goa. The theme for this year’s edition is ‘Young Filmmakers – The Future is No.
A 10-member team from the state, nominated by the Department of Information and Public Relations, Nagaland, namely- Vileno Tase, Athe Rhi, Nungshitemjen Jamir, Vikepe Yhokha, Lonehol Kin, Ravinder Chetri, I Baso Chang, Arienba Jamir, Jepito H Zhimomi and Tiakumzuk Pongener participated in the 9-day film festival at Panaji in Goa from November 20th -28th .
A special session with the Secretary of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Sanjay Jaju at the on-going 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) was held on 23rd November at Kala Academy, Panjim, Goa. A total of 274 student delegates and young filmmakers attended the session.
Broadly briefing on the festival theme 'Creative Minds of Tomorrow,' Jaju talked about the potentials of young filmmakers and said that while we learn from the legacy of the past, we should also passed on the lessons to the young minds. He encourages the delegate students to sharpen their skills, craft that they possessed and aim to showcase their work in a bigger platform to make a good mark for themselves, family and nation.
He also highlighted about the importance of reaching out to the unreach and therefore lauded about the ministry’s propositions to focus on northeast area with their current plans in the coming years for the future.
The musical documentary, “Headhunting to Beatboxing”, which explores the sonic heritage and cultural traditions of Nagaland directed by Rohit Gupta and produced by AR Rahman was one of the films featured at the IFFI 2024 Gala Premieres on November 27.
