Awareness programme on Road Safety cum Free Eye check-up camp was held at DC’s conference hall, Noklak on 28th January 2025.
In his keynote address, Deputy Commissioner Noklak, Arikumba pointed out that, despite of poor road conditions in the district, most of the drivers are driving recklessly without respecting other road users. In order to avoid accident, he advice the drivers to control over speeding, obey all traffic rules, always alert while driving, and use of other destructive substances while driving. Urging the gathering to maintain their vehicles properly, the DC asserted that every time most of the accident was reported to be caused due to lack of proper maintenance of vehicles.
SDO (Civil) Noklak, Vikhoto Richa spoke on the topic Good Samaritan Scheme and Hit & Run Compensation Scheme. He said that, Good Samaritan Scheme is launched by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, is an initiative to encourage citizens to help accident victim without the fear of legal repercussion. It also aims to encourage bystanders to assist victims of road accident, he stated.
Vikhoto Richa also spoke on Hit & Run compensation scheme and said, the scheme provides compensation for victims of hit & run accident where the scheme is a part of Motor Vehicle Act.
EAC Noklak, Menlom Phom, while presenting on 'Road Safety' mentioned that, A road user is any person who utilize the road, including pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclist, passenger in vehicles and anyone else travelling on a public road, for transportation purposes. He also shared on using of Seat Belt and Helmets in order to reduce the chance of death during incidents and to reduce the chance of severe head injury.
Constable P. Khaikho Khiam of DEF Noklak elaborated in details on the Motor Vehicle Act, by sharing on using of signal light, important of side glass, no parking zone and wearing of shoes during driving.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by EAC Noklak, Apuloka H Sumi and vote of thanks was delivered by EAC Noklak, Bangjunglemba.
The programme was followed by Free Eye Check-up camp at DC’s Conference Hall, Noklak led by Chief Medical Officer cum MS Noklak, Dr. Victor. NC and Medical Officer, Dr. Chongya.
The awareness programme was attended by District Road Safety Committee members, Mobile & Drivers’ Union Noklak, Government drivers and all ward union Noklak.
