Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana(PMSSY) Scheme 2024-2025, the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Nagaland, organised an Awareness and River Ranching programme today (19th June 2025) at Chichung River, Mokokchung, where 1 lakh fingerlings were released.

Speaking on the occasion, Director, Fisheries & AR, Rongsennungba, said that the department is doing its best to promote and develop the fishery sector in the state with limited resources. He asked the host village (Longsa) and the neighbouring villages (Milong, Chubayimkum and Moalenden) to safeguard the aquatic ecosystem by protecting it from unethical foraging. He asked the village councils to implement strict rules for the total prohibition of fishing during the breeding season. He suggested that should the council allow fishing in the days to come only the traditional practice of fishing must be allowed saying that what we preserve today is for posterity. The Director thanked all the village councils present and officers from different departments and his colleagues for their support in making the programme a success.

Short speeches were delivered by Bendang Tatar on behalf of Longsa Village Council, Joint Director, SARS, Lipokonen Jamir, Joint Director, Fisheries & AR, Ketusielie Angami, Kazupokba BDO and representatives from Milong, Chubayimkum and Moalenden village councils. The programme was chaired by Deputy Director, Fisheries & AR, Dr. Rongsenkumzuk.
