The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at Sammogooting Stadium, Chumoukedima on 15th August, 2025. The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of National Flag by Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guards, CL John followed by Rashtriya salute and his speech.
The participating parade contingents comprised of 1st NAP Bn; 22nd Assam Rifle; Ex-service man; Patkai Christian College; Mount Mary Higher Sec School; GHSS Chumu; North Town Hr. Sec School; Bharat Scouts& Guides; Pipe Band Shokhuvi. The contingents was led by parade commander Asst Commandant 1st NAP, T. ZubenthungOvung; Parade 2nd in Command ThepfusalieAngami, ABI.
On the occassion, Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guards, CL John presented an award to three Angawadi workers- Joyce Murry, Diphupar; TiakalaSwu, AWC Pimla, Dhansiripar; and Khesele Sumi, Pherima (B) Medzhiphema. They were awarded for the Best Angawadi worker under Chumoukedima District for demonstrating, dedication, commitment and active participation in mother and child care services and empowerment of women, BetiBachoBetiPadhao Mission Shakti Department of Social Welfare, Chumoukedima.
Highlights of the program included a special performance by the Pipe Band, ARTC & S, Shokhuvi; a Cultural Presentation & Entertainment by Phom Women Cultural Troupe, folk Dance; Kachari Cultural Troupe, Dhansiripar; Patriotic Recital by Easter T. Ngullie; Patriotic Dance by DMI St. Joseph Global School, Ikishe and a special presentation by 15th NAP (IR) Mahila Bn.
Later, Exhibition Stalls were inaugurated by Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guards, CL John, put up by ATMA; MOVCD-NER; SHG; KVK Dmp- ICAR Research Region, Jharnapani, Medzhiphema; Mission Shakti DIMUL, Polytechnic, Seithekema. The programme concluded with the Beating of Retreat by 1st NAP Bn, Chumoukedima.
