In an effort to motivate and expose young students to the workings of district administration, the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, launched the “One Day with Deputy Commissioner” initiative on 12th September, 2025. The first batch of five students from Dr. N. Kire Government Higher Secondary School visited the DC Office, Kohima, and participated in an interactive session designed to provide valuable insights into public service and governance.

During the program, the students had the opportunity to interact with DC Buchem, administrative officers, district officers, members of the Kohima Press Club, and officials from the Nagaland Pollution Control Board. Buchem shared inspiring stories of bureaucrats who overcame challenges, remained humble, and achieved success through perseverance. He emphasized the importance of hard work, a positive attitude, good health, and essential leadership qualities.

Highlighting the purpose of the initiative, Buchem encouraged the students to redefine their own paths and aim for excellence, irrespective of their family backgrounds.

The program aims to build confidence, broaden perspectives, and spark interest in public service careers among the youth.

This initiative by DC Kohima will select five meritorious and enthusiastic students, at a time, from private and government schools across Kohima district. It offers them firsthand experience of the district administration’s functions and the system of governance at the local level.

The students actively participated in the program, expressing keen interest and dedication.
