National Girl Child day was celebrated at Noklak under the theme "Empowerment, Education, Digital inclusion, Health and Leadership", organised by the District Administration Noklak in collaboration with SANKALP - District Hub for Empowerment of Women and Sakshi One Stop Centre Noklak on January 24, 2026 at DC's conference Hall, Noklak.
SDO (Civil), Noklak, Vikhoto Richa in his keynote address highlighted the activities of Mission Shakti in the district focusing on women empowerment. He informed about the proposal for a One Stop Centre (OSC), including a women’s hostel and short-term shelter and emphasized the role of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW). Speaking on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, he highlighted efforts to improve sex ratio, literacy, and skill development, and acknowledged ASHA workers as frontline workers promoting institutional deliveries.
Centre Administrator Sakhi, One Stop Centre (OSC) Noklak, Niamkoi in her address informed that the main objective of Mission Shakti is to provide support and assistance to women affected by violence, without any age bar. She highlighted that the mission addresses various forms of violence, including gender-based violence, economic violence, cybercrime, human trafficking, and emotional and psychological abuse.
Under Mission Shakti, support services include the Universal Women Helpline (181) and the Child Helpline (1098), adding that the services provided cover police assistance, medical assistance, legal counselling, and temporary shelter homes.
She also spoke on Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat which is a national campaign against girl marriage, stating that marriage below the age of 18 years is illegal and emphasized that child marriage is an evil practice that must be eradicated.
Miss Khiamniungan 2026 and Ambassador of Bedi Bachao Bedi Padhao (BBBP) Noklak, Tsukian Lamheing, speaking on Significance of Girl Child Day, said the day is a reminder of society’s responsibility to empower girls. Highlighting the theme "Empowerment, Education, Digital Inclusion, Health, and Leadership", she emphasized that girls are not only the future but also the present contributors to society, and denying them education is a loss to all.
As the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Ambassador of Noklak, she described BBBP as a social movement to protect the dignity and rights of the girl child. Speaking as Miss Khiamniungan 2026, she said she represents more than a crown, a voice of leadership and service, and urged the families and communities to support girls equally, adding that empowering a girl means empowering a nation.
During the event, the Lt. Supo Memorial Award was presented to meritorious girl students who have excelled academically. The awardees were Tangniu Khiamniungan, Niamkoi P, and Tsumon P. Lam.
The Lt. Supo Memorial Award instituted under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), Noklak district in 2023, is awarded to HSLC & HSSLC girl students from Noklak district who secure meritorious achievements. The award serves as a tribute to Lt. Supo’s legacy and as a solemn reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by women, while also raising awareness against gender-based violence.
Short speech on behalf of the Awardees was given by Tangniu Khiamniungan, while the program was chaired by Shing B, Gender Specialist DHEW. Invocation was pronounced by Heme, Ex-Deacon ITC DAN , special number by students of GHS Noklak village and a vote of thanks by Indhe, DEO DHEW.
