The JSW Women-Centric Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) was inaugurated on 18th February 2026 at the Integrated Business Hub & Innovation Centre (IBHIC), Forest Colony, Dimapur. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) and the JSW Foundation under the JSW Shakti initiative.
Chief Minister of Nagaland Dr. Neiphiu Rio graced the programme as the Special Guest, while Chief Operating Officer of JSW Shakti Foundation, Rahul Dev attended as the Honoured Guest. The centre, described as the first-of-its-kind women-centric BPO facility in Northeast India, has an initial seating capacity of 150 and will provide IT-enabled employment opportunities for women aged 18 years and above.
Delivering the inaugural address, Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio said the inauguration marks more than the opening of a facility - it represents a new chapter in Nagaland’s journey towards inclusive and technology-driven growth. He said the partnership reflects a shared vision of empowering women, strengthening skills, and creating meaningful employment opportunities within the State.
Rio stated that Nagaland’s greatest strength lies in its people, particularly its youth, who are educated, adaptable, English-proficient, and capable of competing in today’s global service economy. He emphasised that the State government has consistently prioritised skill development, entrepreneurship, and private investment as key drivers of sustainable development.
Highlighting the important role of women in Naga society, Dr. Rio described them as active contributors to economic activities, respected voices in the community, and strong pillars within families. He noted that while women have traditionally played significant roles in social and economic spheres, structured employment opportunities such as this BPO will further enhance their financial independence and professional growth.
He said that the collaboration between IDAN and the JSW Foundation, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding, focuses on three critical pillars - skills, technology, and employment. These, he said, are essential for building a resilient, future -ready workforce capable of adapting to the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Rio also remarked that the establishment of a women-centric BPO in Dimapur demonstrates that Nagaland is ready to host modern service-sector enterprises. He expressed confidence that the success of this centre would attract more investments in IT-enabled services and other knowledge-based industries to the State.
Stressing the importance of public-private partnerships, he said sustainable development can only be achieved when government and corporate institutions work together with mutual trust and shared responsibility. He assured that the Government of Nagaland will continue to provide full support to initiatives that create employment, strengthen local capacities, and uplift communities, particularly youth and women.
He further expressed hope that the centre would help reduce outward migration by enabling young women to pursue professional careers within their home State, thereby strengthening families and contributing to the local economy. Congratulating IDAN, the JSW Foundation, and all stakeholders, the CM wished the project lasting success and a positive long-term impact on Nagaland’s socio-economic landscape.
In his opening remarks, Abu Metha, Chairman of IDAN and Advisor to the Chief Minister, thanked Almighty God for the occasion and expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for his leadership and vision in bringing the project to the State. He also acknowledged the support of the Deputy Chief Minister, Ministers, and other dignitaries present.
Describing the facility as a milestone initiative, Metha said nearly ₹6 crore has been invested in the first phase of the project by JSW Foundation and JSW Shakti, led by Sangita Jindal. He informed that the BPO will initially employ around 125 people, with plans to expand up to 500 employees in the coming months. Conceptualized and completed within six months, the project reflects strong collaboration between the Government of Nagaland and JSW.
He further stated that the initiative seeks to generate employment within the State so that young people, especially women, need not migrate to distant cities under challenging conditions. Bringing them back to work at home would strengthen families and boost the local economy, he added.
Rahul Dev, in his address, stated that the JSW Foundation, established in 1989 as the social development arm of the JSW Group, works across 11 states and 15 districts, impacting over one million lives. He said the Foundation focuses on health and nutrition, education, skill development, water and sanitation, rural livelihoods, sports, and heritage conservation.
Speaking on the Women-Centric BPO initiative, he said the project aims to empower women by providing IT-enabled employment opportunities and enabling them to contribute meaningfully to economic growth. He informed that JSW Shakti centres are operational in several states including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and West Bengal, and the Dimapur centre marks the first such facility in the Northeast.
The JSW Foundation stated that the project is designed to create sustainable livelihoods, promote digital inclusion, and strengthen the service economy in the region. By generating local employment in the IT-enabled services sector, the BPO centre is expected to reduce outward migration and encourage greater workforce participation among women, thereby contributing to long-term socio-economic development in the State.
The programme concluded with the ceremonial presentation of engagement letters to selected candidates and ribbon-cutting of the BPO.
