In a significant collaborative outreach initiative, National Commission for Women in partnership with the Nagaland State Commission for Women will be organizing 'Mahila Jan Sunwai' (Public Hearings) across the state from 9th March to 13th March, 2026, commemorating 'International Women's Day' and reinforcing the collective commitment towards women's safety, dignity, and access to justice.
The week-long nationwide public hearing drive aims to provide women with a direct, accessible platform to voice their grievances and seek institutional support. Through this coordinated effort, complaints related to domestic violence, workplace harassment, maternity benefit, abandonment, trafficking, and other forms of gender-based injustice will be heard and addressed.
A key highlight of the 'Mahila Jan Sunwai' is the focus on time-bound and swift grievance redressal. Dedicated benches comprising Chairpersons and Members from the Nagaland State Commission for Women, District Administration, District Legal Services Authority (DALSA), Police Authorities, Legal Experts, and Protection Officers will be present to ensure immediate hearing of complaints, registration and escalation of serious cases, legal guidance and procedural assistance and time-bound follow-up mechanisms. Walk-in complaints shall also be heard during the Jan Sunwai from 9th to 13th March, 2026.
By taking the grievance redressal mechanism directly to districts and grassroots levels, the initiative seeks to bridge institutional gaps and ensure that women especially from rural areas receive prompt institutional support without procedural delays. This will strengthen grassroots access to Justice.
Organized as an ode to International Women's Day (8 March), the 'Mahila Jan Sunwai' reflects the vision of moving beyond symbolic celebration towards tangible justice delivery and empowerment. The initiative underscores the shared resolve of national and state bodies to create safer, more responsive ecosystems for women across India.
The public hearing will be held at DC’s conference hall across the district: on 9th March at Tuensang, Zunheboto, Tseminyu and Wokha; on 10th March at Mokokchung and Niuland; on 11th March at Chumoukedima; on 12th March at Longleng and Peren; on 13th March at Mon, Kohima and Dimapur.
