A workshop on the development of assessment items based on the indicators of the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) under PARAKH was conducted at SCERT, Kohima on 1st and 2nd May, 2026, organised by SCERT, Nagaland, the programme saw participation from the DoSE, 8 DIETs and SCERT.
Aligned with the vision of National Education Policy 2020, the NPST aims to enhance the quality of teaching and strengthen the education system as a whole. The workshop was thoughtfully designed, and the active participation of the participants in the workshop provided valuable inputs not only at the national level, particularly to NCERT, but also for strengthening the State’s education system, especially for the teachers of Nagaland.
The assessment items developed over the two days were based on careful thought and
contextual understanding, which reflects the realities of our classrooms.
In this context the NPST, developed by National Council for Teacher Education, emerges as a landmark framework. It clearly defines the expectations for quality teaching and outlines a structured pathway for professional growth.
The Workshop was organised with an aim, to understand the vision of NEP 2020 with respect to teachers and their assessment, to comprehend the structure, standards, and performance indicators of the NPST Guiding Document, 2023, to design high-quality, valid, reliable and bias-free assessment items aligned with NPST indicators and to develop practical skills in item creation as part of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
