In a major step towards improving Aadhaar service delivery in Nagaland, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) inaugurated the state's first Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) at Purana Bazar, Dimapur, on 3rd July, 2026.

Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election, H. Tovihoto Ayemi, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, described the establishment of the Aadhaar Seva Kendra as a long-cherished dream for the state. He said the facility would make Aadhaar enrolments and update services more accessible and convenient for the people of Nagaland.

Highlighting the increasing importance of Aadhaar, Ayemi said the identity document has become indispensable for availing various government services, school admissions, scholarships and entrance examinations. Stressing the need for timely enrolment and mandatory biometric updates at the ages of five and fifteen, he observed that Nagaland still has significant scope to improve Aadhaar enrolment coverage.

The Advisor noted that while Aadhaar enrolment centres are already functioning under departments such as School Education and Women & Child Development, the newly established Aadhaar Seva Kendra would provide comprehensive Aadhaar-related services under one roof. He pointed out that many residents earlier had to travel to Guwahati for certain Aadhaar-related services, resulting in inconvenience, additional expenses and loss of valuable time.

He said the launch of the centre would greatly benefit senior citizens, children and persons with disabilities by bringing essential services closer to their doorstep.

Assuring full support from the State Government, Ayemi said all necessary assistance would be extended to ensure the smooth functioning of the centre.

Appealing to UIDAI officials to continue supporting the Nagaland Aadhaar Seva Kendra, he also urged the staff to provide prompt, citizen-friendly and hassle-free services. He emphasised the importance of proper guidance for applicants and timely delivery of services without unnecessary delays.

Concluding his address, Ayemi expressed gratitude to UIDAI officials, various government departments, civil society organisations and all stakeholders for their efforts in making the Aadhaar Seva Kendra a reality. He expressed confidence that the facility would prove to be a major convenience for the people of Nagaland.

Director, UIDAI Regional Office, Guwahati, Col. Abhishek Koushik, in his short address said the Aadhaar Seva Kendra was established to provide residents with safe, secure and transparent Aadhaar-related services. He encouraged citizens to make full use of the facility and cooperate in strengthening Aadhaar services across the state.

Deputy Director General, UIDAI Regional Office, Guwahati, Ngachan Zimik, stressed the importance of achieving Aadhaar enrolment saturation in Nagaland and highlighted the need for Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) for children at the ages of five and fifteen years. He said timely biometric updates are essential to prevent Aadhaar deactivation and ensure uninterrupted access to services such as school admissions, entrance examinations, scholarships and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes.

He informed that Mandatory Biometric Updates are being provided free of cost until September 30, 2026, and urged parents and guardians to complete the process within the stipulated period.

He further stated that the new Aadhaar Seva Kendra is expected to significantly improve access to Aadhaar services for residents of Dimapur and adjoining areas. The centre has the capacity to process up to 250 Aadhaar enrolment and update requests daily and offers a wide range of services, including new enrolment, updates to address, name, date of birth, gender, mobile number, email ID and biometric details, besides Aadhaar download and printing services.

The Aadhaar Kendra Seva (ASK), Located at H Apartment, First Floor, near the Labour Office, Purana Bazar, Dimapur, is equipped with modern infrastructure, air-conditioned premises, wheelchair accessibility and accessible restrooms to ensure an inclusive and comfortable experience for all visitors.

Residents can also book appointments online through the UIDAI Appointment Portal-(https://bookappointment.uidai.gov.in/). The centre will remain open on all seven days of the week, except on public holidays, making Aadhaar services more accessible and convenient for the public.
