Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav visited Chümoukedima district on 30th July 2026 and interacted with civil society organisations, government departments and beneficiaries of various government schemes at the DPDB Hall, DC Office Complex. On his arrival at the DC Office Complex, the Governor was accorded a Guard of Honour, followed by the National Song and National Anthem.
Addressing the gathering, The Governor stressed the importance of close coordination between government departments and civil society to ensure inclusive and sustainable development during a district review meeting held in Chümoukedima.
Addressing officials and civil society representatives, the Governor described Chümoukedima, one of Nagaland's youngest districts, as the "Land of Opportunities," saying the title reflects not only its strategic location and economic potential but also the aspirations and energy of its people.
He highlighted the vital role of civil society in governance, community development and maintaining social harmony, stating that development becomes more meaningful and sustainable when government institutions and civil society work together with a shared sense of responsibility.
The Governor said the review meeting provided an opportunity to assess progress, identify challenges and explore practical solutions. He emphasized that development should be measured not merely by the number of schemes implemented but by their positive impact on the lives of the people. He urged all departments to ensure that government programmes are implemented efficiently, transparently and reach every deserving beneficiary.
Noting Chümoukedima's rapid growth, the Governor said the district has immense potential to become a model of planned urban development, entrepreneurship, quality education, healthcare, tourism and employment generation. He called upon government departments to work with a clear vision, maintain close coordination and remain responsive to public needs.
The Governor also appealed to civil society leaders to continue promoting peace, unity and constructive public participation. Expressing confidence in the district's future, he said that with commitment, integrity and teamwork, Chümoukedima would continue to grow as a vibrant district and truly live up to its identity as the "Land of Opportunities."
The first session of the programme, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Chumoukedima, Polan John, NCS, delivered a brief overview of the district. Where he said that Chumoukedima, created as Nagaland's 15th district in December 2021, is widely known as the "Land of Opportunities" because of its immense potential in agriculture, tourism, logistics and infrastructure. He highlighted key assets such as the Agro-Food Processing Unit at Ganeshnagar, the Collection and Processing Centre at Rüzaphema, and the Bamboo Resource and Honey Bee Mission Centres.
The DC also pointed out that the district is home to four universities, several premier educational and research institutions, Nagaland's only airport, and expanding rail and road connectivity. He noted that major infrastructure projects, including gas pipeline works, national highways, healthcare facilities, tourism infrastructure, IT parks and sports facilities, are currently underway.
Stating that Chümoukedima is the third-largest urban agglomeration in Nagaland, Polan John said that although it is a relatively new district and some institutional facilities are yet to be established, its strategic location and ongoing development projects position it to become a thriving hub for infrastructure development and socio-economic growth in the state.
The programme also featured interactions with representatives of the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO), Western Sümi Hoho (WSH), NTUCT and Hindu Samaj, who shared their views and concerns.
The second session, moderated by SDO (Civil) Chumoukedima Headquarters, Shreyansee Jain, IAS, included presentations by the District Programme Officer (Social Welfare), District Agriculture Officer, Chumoukedima, and PMU (NHIIDCL), Dimapur. The Governor also interacted with beneficiaries of various government welfare schemes to understand their experiences and the impact of government initiatives.
