The monthly meeting of the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), Peren was held at the DC’s Conference Hall, Peren, on 7th September 2026, under the chairmanship of MLA & Chairman, DPDB Peren, Namri Nchang.
Deputy Commissioner Peren, Hiazu Meru welcomed the Chairman, DPDB members, special invitees from the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Peren Branch, and the Chairman of Samziuram Village Council. The meeting also witnessed the introduction of new members.
Addressing the meeting, Namri Nchang said collective efforts were essential to bring about significant development in the district. He appreciated the Deputy Commissioner, who is also the Vice Chairman of DPDB Peren, for his efforts in coordinating developmental activities. He urged officers to remain active, sincere and committed to public service and work collectively towards addressing the issues faced by the people.
DC Peren also expressed appreciation to officers and staff of various departments for their active participation and cooperation during the 80th Independence Day celebration held at the DC’s Complex, District Headquarters, Peren. He also commended the departments for setting up exhibition stalls, noting that the initiative had received appreciation from the Deputy Chief Minister. Meru further acknowledged the service rendered by Assistant Planning Officer (APO) Peren, Gwandui Lungalang, who has been transferred to the Directorate and conveyed best wishes for his future responsibilities.
Under the DPDB initiative for the adoption of one village under each Rural Development (RD) Block to streamline the functioning of Village Development Boards (VDBs) and Village Councils, Chairman of Samziuram Village Council shared his experience of attending a recent consultative programme organised by the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) at Kohima. He expressed appreciation to the DPDB for selecting Samziuram village under the initiative.
While reviewing the minutes of the previous meeting, the DC appreciated the Heads of Offices for their continued participation in the monthly mass social work conducted on every last Friday of each month. However, he noted that staff participation remained comparatively low and urged the officers to encourage their respective staff to take part actively. Regarding the construction of offices and quarters at the District Headquarters, he requested the Heads of Offices to closely monitor the ongoing works under their respective departments to ensure quality construction and prevent future complications.
On the Inter-Departmental Tournament 2026, the house approved the proposal to shift the venue from District Headquarters, Peren to Jalukie Town. The committee, headed by ADC Peren as Convenor, proposed Jalukie as the venue, as the District Headquarters lacked a suitable arena. The tournament is proposed to be held during the first week of October, with the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Jalukie as the main venue.
Discussing the Mini Hornbill Festival, the DC informed that while the event was held in the month of December in previous years, the Tribal Hoho-NZPO has proposed to organize it on October 29th, 30th and 31st this year. He called upon all government departments to extend active cooperation and requested the Agriculture and Allied Departments to set up exhibition stalls as part of the festival. NZPO President, Zandi Domta also briefed the house on the proposed arrangements and appealed to the MLA & Chairman, DPDB Peren, and government departments for their cooperation towards the successful conduct of the event.
On the 2nd Edition of the King Chilli Festival which is to be held at New Puilwa Village, the DC appreciated the initiative and at the same time called upon all departments to extend support, particularly the Departments of Horticulture, Agriculture, Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM), and Industries and Commerce. The officials from the concerned departments also assured their support and intervention for the successful conduct of the festival.
The house also considered the proposal for registration of the Benreu Brotherhood Club. Following verification by EAC Ngwalwa and confirmation that the proposal fulfilled the prescribed criteria, the house approved and recommended the society for registration.
Following the agenda deliberations, representatives from various departments made PowerPoint presentations on their respective activities and programmes. Albert of IRCS, Peren; AUDO, Urban Development Department; Dr. Medosenuo, Urban Development Department; DEO, Limadangit Jamir, Education Department; and DESO, Vikeyielienuo Chielie, Economics and Statistics Department, highlighted key programmes, achievements and ongoing activities of their respective departments.
For the next meeting, DC has entrusted the Department of Youth Resources & Sports and Forest Department to deliver PowerPoint presentation. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks from the chair.
