University Grants Commission has extended PhD. as mandatory requirement for appointment of Assistant Professors in Departments of Universities to 01.07.2023

The University Grants Commission (UGC) (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and other Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) Regulations, 2018 stipulates that Ph. D degree shall be mandatory qualification for direct recruitment to the post of Assistant Professors in Universities from 01.07.2021.

The notification issued by Secretary of UGC Prof. Ranjish Jain vide F. No. 9-1/ 2010 (PS/Misc) pt. Vol- II dated 12th October 2021 stated in view of COVID-19 pandemic, the UGC had decided to extend the date of applicability of Ph. D. as mandatory qualification for direct recruitment of Assistant Professors from 01.07.2021 to 01.07.2023.

The Gazette of India extraordinary Part III- Section 4 published by Authority, New Delhi 12th October 2021- 3.10 "The Ph. D. Degree shall be a mandatory qualification for direct recruitment to the post Assistant Professor in Departments of the Universities with effect from 01.07.2023.
