The Government of Nagaland, Home Department, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Kohima has issued an advisory in the wake of incessant rainfall resulting in devastating landslides, severe flash floods and massive waterlogging throughout the State, all District Disaster Management Authorities are to remain vigilant and monitor the situation by activating their respective District Emergency Operations Centre. Further, the DDMAs are also requested to initiate the following measures:

Immediately prioritize life safety of its citizen.

            Evacuate residents from severely waterlogged, low-lying, and landslide-prone zones (such as unstable embankments and riverbanks).

            Take stock of availability of essential commodities, like food stock, fuels and essential medicines and monitor the same to ensure sufficient stocks are available at all times during the emergency situation.

            Ensure communication are up and running and establish rapid communication wherever required.

            Mobilize coordinated response teams and keep them on stand-by for any eventualities.

            Deploy machinery (JCBs, excavators) and earth-moving teams to clear debris and mudslides from blocked highways and arterial roads to maintain connectivity.

            Coordinate with Power to preemptively shut down power grids in submerged areas to prevent electrocution and restore them swiftly once waters recede.

            Issue advisories identifying alternate routes and halting non-essential travel on vulnerable, landslide-prone stretches.

            Advise the public to avoid fishing, swimming, or lingering near swollen streams, overflowing drains, and riverbanks.

            Appeal to the public to refrain from spreading unverified rumors on social media to prevent unnecessary panic.
