The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department in coordination with Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati issues weather updates for the coming days.
Monsoon rains have been deficient for the state by about 25% this season. Only mild activity occurred during the last 10 days. However, moderate rain with thunderstorm is expected during late evening and night and there could be frequent spells of intermittent rain lasting till early morning from 8th to 16th of August 2020. The weather activity in the first half will be more than the latter one. Thundershowers and lighting accompanied with heavy rains is expected in the districts of Peren, Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Zunheboto, Kiphire, Mokokchung and Tuensang from 8th to 11th August 2020.
The second half, including Independence Day, will have better weather conditions. One or two spell of rain or thunderstorms of short duration likely to occur during night. During this period, the days generally will be cloudy. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 25 degrees and 18 degrees at most locations except Dimapur where maximum temperature could rise up to 35 degrees. Any adverse weather causing disruption to the routine activities not expected. Spike in weather activity with frequent rainy spells expected from 17th August onwards.
NSDMA, Home Department has urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period. NSDMA has also requested all the DDMAs and other line departments who are responsible to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities and to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period.
