A one-day media workshop ‘Vartalap’ on ‘9 years Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan’ was held at Hotel Japfii, Kohima on 4th July 2023.
Director General of Police, Nagaland, Rupin Sharma IPS, speaking as the Chief Guest, exhorted the entire media fraternity, to be honest as well as fearless in reporting the correct message to the general public. He said that media persons should report unbiased news without taking sides with anyone or reporting from a wrong perspective which might create chaos in a law and order situation.
Citing the example of the Manipur issue, he applauded the media fraternity for resisting in spreading of harmful or wrong news and added, media persons should be sensible enough to desist to spread the news even if it's the ‘truth’ but when it is harmful to the society.
He also highlighted the importance of social media and audio and visual platform in disseminating the updated news, however, he also cautioned that users as well as handlers to fact check and authenticate the message properly before spreading it. He added that while reporting ‘words and phrases’ should be used in a correct and positive manner to avoid misinterpreting them in multiple ways.
Sharma also urged the journalist to create awareness of different government schemes in the remote village of the state in a much more organized and saturated manner.
On the issue of drugs, he urged everyone to join in their effort to combat drugs and drug peddlers.
In her short speech special guest, General Secretary of Kohima Press Club, Atono Tsukru Kense acknowledged the valuable collaboration with Press Information Bureau and Kohima Press Club. She extended her gratefulness to the PIB upon learning about various schemes implemented by the government of India and hoped that this workshop would provide a vital platform for the media persons as well as the general public.
Guest of honour, General Secretary, K. Elu Nadang expressed his appreciation for the chance to partake in an event of such profound importance. He also expressed his appreciation to the government of India for providing lots of schemes and policies that are people-centric and directly benefit the people.
Later during the technical session resource persons, Jt. Director of Agriculture Department, Ketsukha Kath spoke on the topic of Overview of CSS Schemes Implemented by Agri Department, Jt. Director, Dept. of Employment, Savio Visa, highlighted the overview of activities implemented by the Department of Employment Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Sr. Programme Officer, Er. Samuel Terieng and Programme Officer, Vizoselie Semou on Overview of activities implemented by IT & Communication Department.
Earlier, DGP inaugurated a mini photo exhibition on ‘9 years Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan’ at Hotel Japfii.
