The District & Sessions Court Wokha on 22nd October 2021 convicted one accused U/S 302 IPC. The quantum of sentence was heard on 25th October 2021 and awarded life imprisonment (rigorous) and also to pay a fine of ₹. 1,000/- and in default to undergo simple imprisonment for 6 months.
It may be mentioned here that on July 17 2017 a dead body that was later identified as Enibemo Ezung was recovered at the premises of Primary School at New Lio-Wokha under Bhandari Police Station. In this connection Bhandari P.S C/No. 09/2017 U/S 302 IPC was registered and in the course of investigation, two persons Lirhonthung Murry and Lolanbeni Murry were arrested. However after thorough investigation, the Investigation Officer Shri James Jami NPS, the then SDPO Bhandari filed the charge sheet against the accused Lirhonthung Murry U/S 302 IPC. During the trial as many as 9(nine) Prosecution Witnesses were examined by the court. While passing the judgment, the trial Court has noted that though there is no eye witness to the occurrence, the circumstantial evidence are proved beyond reasonable doubt and shows that the chain of circumstantial evidence is so completed that there is no escape from the conclusion that in all human probabilities that the death of the deceased was caused by the accused and none else.
Earlier, the District & Sessions Court Wokha have also convicted accused Nenyalo Messen and sentenced for imprisonment for life on September 15 2021 in connection with Wokha P.S C/No. 40/2016 U/S 302 IPC and dismissed Money Suit No. 01/2017 on July 16 2021 which was filed against the Department of Tourism, Nagaland in connection with a Contract Work Order amounting to ₹. 48,82,8810/-.
