The inaugural programme of the state level orientation for science and mathematics teachers of Eklavya Residential School was held on 10th February 2022 at State College of Teacher Education, Kohima. The two-day orientation programme was organized by Nagaland TRI in collaboration with State College of Teacher Education, Kohima, Nagaland and funded by Tribal Research Institute Division, ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India.
Special guest, Additional Secretary, Tribal Affairs, Nchumbemo Lotha, NSS stated that the orientation programme was to ensure that all teachers new to the school are promptly and effectively trained on their respective subjects. He added that orientation programme ensures that all teachers of the school are promptly and effectively socialized into the school culture and allows them to seamlessly integrate into the school community. He stated that the modules that are covered under the programme, enables the new teachers to gain an in-depth understanding of the philosophy, culture, classroom management tenets and teaching and learning practices followed at the school.
Lotha stated that the foundation of every teaching should be to introduce critical thinking in children and that knowledge is limited but ideas and imagination are not. He encouraged the teachers to teach their students to be perceptive and discerning and help them understand the value of character and more than position or rank. He also encourage the teachers to be passionate in their profession.
Chairperson of the programme, Dr. Elizabeth Walling delivered the welcome address while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Runi Nakro, Vice Principal, SCTE-K.
