The Nagaland Education Association organized a panel discussion on the vision of NEP 2020 at Morung Hall, Directorate of School Education, Kohima on 29th July 2023.
During his speech, President NEA, Dr. Zavise Rume highlighted that the panel discussion was organized as an academic forum to gain a deeper understanding of the policies, particularly the vision of NEP.
He emphasized that the discussion would focus on the vision, specifically in the context of Nagaland, and how the state can achieve its goals as outlined in the NEP 2020.
Describing NEP 2020 as an ambitious re-imagination of India's education system, Rume praised it as a farsighted policy statement aimed at transforming the country into a modern, progressive, and equitable society.
He further described NEP as a comprehensive document, providing broad guidelines for the effective implementation of education policies and programs in India.
Rume opined that NEP 2020 is a response to the people's demand for a new education system that is more practical, job-oriented, and skill-oriented. Such an education system, he believed, would empower children to generate knowledge through practice and experience.
Encouraging participants to discuss strategies for producing skilled manpower professionals in Nagaland, Rume emphasized the need for radical changes not only in education but also in attitudes towards values, words, and skills within the state.
Addressing indigenous education, Rume proposed that indigenous knowledge could serve as the foundation for modern education in Nagaland, utilizing the Naga ethos of pragmatism to improve and promote the state's educational system.
The panelists for the program included Associate Professor, Department of Education, Nagaland University, Dr. Khotole Khieya, Associate Professor, SCTE, Dr. Bendangyapangla, and Deputy Director of Higher Education, Dr. Medonggoi Rhakho. The session was recorded by Assistant Professor, SCTA, Dr. Daili Kholia, and Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Alder College, Dr. Medotsino Thorie. Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Kohima Government College, Dr. Ketoukhrie-ü, moderated the program, and Assistant Professor, SCTE, Dr. Neizekhonuo Liezietsu, delivered the concluding remarks.
