Peren District Planning & Development Board meeting was held at Deputy Commissioner’s Office conference Hall, Peren on 8th June 2026 under the Chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang, Planning & Transformation and National Highway. The meeting discussed to form Officers’ Club in the district in order to bring more officers of different departments closer to a common platform.
Discussing on the topic of the Ntangki National Park, the board urged the forest department to coordinate with Director of Ntangki National Park and DFO Peren to Properly function the Director’s office at Ntangki National Park at forest camp.
While the board was deliberating a total ban on single use plastic, the Deputy Chief Minister, T.R. Zeliang apprised the meeting that single use plastic dominates our economy due to their incredibly low production cost, and the board decided to ban single use plastics in the district because it severely affects the environment and creates health hazard. T.R. Zeliang stated that how single use of plastics affects the environment because it takes hundreds of years to decompose and the clog waterways kills wildlife and leach toxic microplastics into food and water which is harmful to our health. After a lengthy deliberation the house unanimously resolved to setup a committee headed by Deputy Commissioner as Convener, UDO as Member Secretary, EE PHED as Member, DRDA as Member, and CMO as Member.
Deputy Commissioner Peren, Hiazu Meru opined and entrusted Town Council and Ad-hoc Town Council under Peren district to educate the general public to minimize the use of single use plastics.
Earlier, the board reviewed the previous meeting minutes on adoption of Peren Government College and Hospitals in the district. Later, Hiazu Meru also introduced the Selco Foundation to the board, where the Selco Foundation highlights their activities under Peren district through PowerPoint presentation. In conclusion, Deputy Commissioner expressed his gratitude to the members for the Successful conduct of the day’s event.
