Peren District Task Force on COVID-19 & Vaccination Committee held a meeting on 28th June at Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Peren under the chairmanship of DC Peren cum DTF Chairman, Sentiwapang Aier, NCS.

Presiding over the meeting, the DC took report on the current status of COVID-19 and vaccination status in the district from district Health Authorities. Dy. CMO, Dr. Lanuakum Jamir while highlighting on the current status informed that at present total number of COVID active cases in the district stands at 71. DIO, Dr. Kiholi while highlighting on vaccination status informed that till 27th June 2021, 14,637 doses of COVID vaccines have been administered among the health care workers, frontline workers, citizens of 18-44 years and citizensof 45 years and above.

The house discussed on the matters relating to the rapid surge in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the district. Other areas of concern discussed in the meeting included: poor public response to vaccination campaigns, lack of  cooperation from the public for COVID-19 testing during contact tracing, non-adherence to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour by the public, inactive participation of ward/village Task Forces and active spread of rumours/fake news on social media regarding COVID vaccine.

Expressing concern over the low progress of COVID-19 vaccination drives in the district, the DC said that unless the community comes forward, the performance of the district will remain poor. In this regard, the DC asked the civil societies and faith based organisations to provide cooperation to the district health authorities and administration so as to achieve the targeted result in the district.

NZPO President also requested all the citizens of Peren District to follow government SOPs, cooperate with frontline workers, get vaccinated, avoid rumours and actively participate in containing the dreaded disease in the district.
