The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Wokha Division started the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign on 23rd September 2022 at Etsutchukha Pump Site, Wokha HQ in concurrence with the State’s Action plan of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) with SDO(C) Wokha, Tsidi as the distinguished guest.

The SDO, while administering the Pledge, urged the people to stop using single-use plastics and resolve to do their bit, small or large, to keep their land and water bodies free from plastic litter.

As part of the Celebration, a massive cleanliness drive, and tree plantation was carried out at the site, and also a pledge was undertaken to stop littering and ban single-use plastic (SUPs) plantation drive was also carried out around the Pump site. EE, PHED Wokha Division, Er. Imnazulu, in his keynote address, stated that trees are planted to improve air quality, conserve water, preserve soil, and climate amelioration. He also stated that public participation is critical in banning SUPs and the success of banning plastic would be possible only through effective engagement and concerted actions by all stakeholders.

The event culminated with the pledge in which everybody committed to Refuse, Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, Repair, Re-gift, Recover and Rethink plastic.

Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign is celebrated from 15th September to 02nd October every year. This year, the statewide campaign is being launched on visual cleanliness of villages during "Swachhata Hi Seva" to clean up the garbage/waste dumped around the villages The focus of this year is on managing the legacy waste at garbage vulnerable sites in the villages. 

The following activities are to be undertaken in the Wokha district which consists of six blocks and covers 153 villages during SHS 2022: Visual cleanliness in villages, Cleaning of garbage vulnerable sites in the villages, Community awareness for segregation of waste (dry and wet) at source, Construction of waste collection & segregation sheds/centres, Door to door collection of non-biodegradable waste like plastics, Keeping the areas near water bodies clean and doing tree plantation around them, Generate awareness about the ill effects of Single Use Plastics by organizing Gram Sabha meetings and passing resolutions for a ban on SUPs and Sarpanch Samvads on ODF plus elements, and pledged for "No Littering’’.
