Noklak District participated in the 2nd edition of the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2022 for the first time with a contingent of 93(ninety three) participants for 6(six) events out of the 11(eleven) events conducted by the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) held from 17th August to 27th August 2022 at Kohima, Dimapur and Longleng.

The Noklak District Team was led by Er. Jonthong Khiamniungan as the “Chef de Mission”, Thangpong Khiamniungan as “Dy Chef de Mission” and Longshen Sheu as the ‘District Team Manager”. The young talents participated with full zeal and might, and confidently finished the games in 4th position with a total of 18 (Eighteen) medals (8 Golds, 6 Silvers and 4 Bronzes). The youngest participant was Khunyu L, 11(eleven) years old from Noklak Village who represented the District in Archery Team.

Meanwhile a reception program for the athletes who arrived at Noklak after a successful campaign was accorded by the apex tribal bodies led by Noklak District Administration headed by DC Noklak, Hiazu Meru, who is also the Chairman of Noklak District Sports Council which was held at DC Conference hall, Noklak Hq. on 1st September 2022.

Prior to that the facilitation and valedictory program was also held at Kohima, Conference Hall, DUDA Guest House organised by the Khiamniungan Sports Council, where Advisor H. Haiyang graced the function.

During the 2nd NOPG2022, Noklak District could reach many heights; some of the individual medals and tittles won by the district are:

1.      Tsuchoi T – 5 Gold Medals, She is awarded the “Outstanding Sports Woman” of the NOPG2022, and also the highest Gold Medalist of the 2nd NOPG2022.

2.      Tsujen C – 4 Gold & 1 Silver Medal, She also holds the title of “Fastest Woman” of the 2nd NOPG2022 with a record of 100M in 13.45 Seconds breaking her own previous record of 13.65 Seconds during the 1st Nagaland Olympic.

3.      Songmo P– 3 Golds and 2 Silvers

4.      Niansai T – 2 Golds and 2 Silvers

5.      Shiangjio T – 1 Silver and 1 Bronze

6.      Shongmao T – 1 Bronze

7.      Wongpangthong – 1 Bronze

8.      Tsujang N – 1 Bronze

 

Noklak District was awarded the title of “Athletic Team Champion (Women)” of the 2nd Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2022.
