A launching programme of COVID-19 Vaccination Centre (CVC) for Health and Wellness Centre (HWC) was held at Thizama HWC, Kohima on 17th April 2021. Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio after completion of his second dose vaccine at Thizama conveyed his greetings and acknowledged the health workers and villagers for maintaining and following the SOPs laid by the authority.

Rio applauded the police, administration, health workers, frontline workers for their selfless dedication towards fighting the first wave of Covid-19.He mentioned that death rate was low compared to other states and the Government has been working hard to sustain the demand of the people during the pandemic and advised the gathering to take outmost care to help oneself as well as others. He stated that the second wave infection rate could rise very rapidly and urged the people to take the vaccine and further added that the vaccine will not only be provided in hospitals but in health and wellness centers for the convenience of everyone.

He encouraged the people to stay healthy by maintaining cleanliness, wearing mask, practice washing of hands often and urged to avoid big gatherings. He reminded the gathering not to spread false information about the vaccine and encouraged everyone to take the vaccine to safe oneself from the virus

CMO Kohima, Dr. Vezokholü Theyo in her short speech briefed on HWCs under Kohima District and mentioned that to give comprehensive health care and bring the basic health service to the doorstep, HWCs are offering other services in various packages.

HWC services include Care in Pregnancy & Child Birth, Neonatal & Infant Health Care services, Childhood & Adolescent Health care Services, Family Planning, Contraceptive services & other Reproductive Health Care Services, Management of Communicable diseases including Neonatal Health Programmes, Management of Common Communicable diseases & Outpatient Care for acute simple illnesses & minor ailments, Screening, Prevention, Control & Management of NCD, Care of Common Ophthalmic &ENT problems, Basic Oral Health Care, Elderly & Palliative Health Care services, Emergency Medical services, Screening & Basic Management of Mental Health ailments.

She also informed that in Kohima 23,606 persons have been vaccinated for COVID-19 till date and added that 24 CVCs/HWC (15 public, 3 private and 6 central) are active for vaccination.
