Celebrating Amrit Utsav (100 cities - 100 events) and propagating the "Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shekar" campaign, a Swachh Bharat Mission - Urban 2.0 Initiative, the Kohima Municipal Council in collaboration with the Kohima Smart City Development Limited inaugurated RRR Centres (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) for the ward no. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 under Kohima Municipal Council at its Office, Super Market Complex Kohima on 20th May 2023.
In the programme, Deputy Commissioner Kohima Shanavas C, IAS said not being farsighted and not thinking about sustainable development is a problem. He lamented that the waste created is more than the population of Kohima City which poses hazardous impacts on its citizens. He, therefore, urged all the stakeholders to come forward and create awareness in all the localities under Kohima municipality and asked the citizens to have a civic sense and a sense of belonging and do away with the habit of saying "My Wish" and be responsible for greener and livable environment and made a clarion call to all the concerned to be cooperative and come forward so as to work together for better tomorrow.
Earlier, the Administrator of Kohima Municipal Council, T. Lanusenla Longkumer gave a brief keynote address about the aims and objectives and the initiatives undertaken for its purpose. She said that the campaign aims to create a cleaner and better healthy environment for a positive impact on the lives of its citizens. She also informed that the best three RRR Centres will be awarded.
The welcome address was given by the chairperson of the day's programme, Neilhouphrelie, ACI, Kohima Municipal Council. Special song was favoured by Ketoulhou Sakhrü and Keviweno Tholre and the vote of thanks was pronounced by Office Secretary, KMC, Zakiekhotuo Kiso. The programme was attended by Jt. Director (RD) Kezhochole Rhetso, officials from the line department, and council members of the wards/ Panchayat, NGOs, and SHGs under Kohima Municipality.
