In a concerted effort to help local farmers enhance productivity of local organic products post-covid lockdown, and at the same time, to ramp up COVID-19 vaccination in the district, a one-day seminar on Agri and Horti as well as COVID-19 vaccination awareness-cum-vaccination camp was held on the 20th of November at Chokriba village under Chetheba Circle, Chozuba Sub-Division, under the aegis of Phek District Administration.

MLA of Chozuba constituency, Dr Chotisuh Sazo spoke on vaccination and post-covid-19 economic sustainability. Deputy Commissioner, Phek, Razouvolie Dozo gave a brief highlight of the status of vaccination in the district, factors that were hindering vaccine coverage and urged the gathering to protect citizens by promoting vaccination. Dozo also spoke on focusing on special localised agri and allied products.

DAO, Phek spoke on the conservation of native crop germplasm and procedure for organic farming/produce accreditation, while DHO, Phek presented on the topic, post-harvest management and supply chain/market unlinking with special focus on kiwi. The surrounding region is especially known for its production of kiwi, persimmon and organic vegetables.

Other speakers included Senior Specialist, District Hospital Phek, Dr Wemeri and former Executive Director, Chakhesang Women Welfare Society, Vechulo, both of whom spoke on vaccination awareness and the role of public and spiritual leaders in encouraging the citizenry to avail the vaccine.

The programme was chaired by EAC Chetheba, Er. Omegali and was attended by village and church leaders, elders and farmers of surrounding eight villages.
