Boys from Phek district defeated Wokha district, and Girls from Niuland district defeated Chumoukedima district to bag the first prize in their respective categories in the 14th Inter-District Catch Them Young Tournament 2022. Advisor for Youth Resources & Sports Er. Zale Neikha handed over the prizes to the winners and officials during a function held at IG Stadium, Kohima on 14 October 2022.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Er. Zale said that he was amazed to see young budding sportspersons showing their enthusiasm for Sepaktakraw coming from all corners of Nagaland. The Advisor said Sepaktakraw is one of the best-performing disciplines having represented India at different International level events. He said Nagas are enthusiastic sportspersons capable of competing with the rest of the world and expressed the need to revamp by evaluating the failures of the participants, families, coaches, communities, and associations. He further expressed the need to change their mindset and stop pointing fingers and take responsibility for failure and success in sports. Sportspersons should take responsibility and set the mindset to put more effort into their skills to achieve and excel. He also congratulated all winners and the entire team for showing their skills.
Observers from Sports Authority of India, Joy Kumar, and others also attended the Catch Young Tournament.
The comperes of the Catch Them Young Tournament were Chubarenla Longchari, YRO, and Dr. Vilar, Physiotherapy YRS. Secretary, YR&S Wezope Kenye IAS, and department officials witnessed the programme. The Department also thanked all the officials who took part.
