As part of the Systematic Voters Education & Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities 2021 a signature campaign was conducted on the theme “My Vote Not for Sale, I take Pledge for Clean Election”, on 27th November 2021 at Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex.
Around 120 students from Nine (9) Schools and two colleges participated during the signature campaign organised by the Election department Wokha.
SDO (C), Wokha, Selemla S. Sangtam while briefing the student’s said, this campaign was organised with a view to create awareness among the student’s about Clean Election, because Election Commission of India (ECI) is of the view that newly voters who are eligible to get enrolled in the Electoral roll should be sensitized before getting enrolled so that new voters are aware of the entire electioneering process.
Sangtam also said that election is a process where we the people elect our representatives to form a Government, so election is one of the most important biller in a democratic country like us, also added success and failure of election in a democratic country depends on us and a responsible citizens we should try to maintain a clean electoral roll.
Discouraging the practice of doing multiple entries, the SDO (C) requested the students and others who have already attained the eligible age and are yet to get themselves enrolled to kindly get enrolled in only one polling station because the ECI says “One Man One Vote”. She also discouraged voters to stop practicing proxy voting
Your vote is your voice, rights and power and if you sell your vote you are selling your voice, rights and your power and by doing so you are selling your vote to a meaningless future and appealed all voters to exercise their franchise in the fairness level, added Sangtam.
Assistant Election Officer, Wokha, Aketo Shohe, while giving the opening remark encouraged the students to be an agent of change and lead by example by choosing the right leaders without indulging in any malpractice as students are the leaders of tomorrow and urged them to show good example to the society. Akheto also inform the Schools Administrators and college Principles to constitute the ELECTORAL LITERACY CLUB who are yet to constitute/form at the earliest.
