Launching program of "Smoke Free District Headquarter Campaign" and meeting of District Level Coordinator Committee (DLCC) Longleng and District Tobaco Control Cell (DTCC) Longleng was held on 8th September 2021 at DC’s conference hall.

The DC & Chairman (NTCP) M. Shayung Phom highlighted the DLCC & DTCC constituted and launched the "Smoke Free District Headquarter Campaign Longleng". In his short speech the DC encouraged the newly constituted committee to take up town inspection and enforcement of its activities with upmost courage and efficiently. For awareness of the mass the DC also appealed for proclamation of the committee established to inspect on the matter.

Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Longleng Dr. Kibangkumba spoke on the ill effects of tobacco which causes health disasters like TB, Cancer, stroke, infertility, miscarriage and low birth weight in women etc.. He also encouraged to conduct campaign & awareness in the district particular in schools and colleges to educate the youths on ill effects of tobacco to our health.

Briefing on the activities of DLCC & DTCC Longleng Dr. Bongau Phom, District Nodal official (NTCP), Longleng encouraged all to behave as responsible citizens as it is painful to observe people smoking in public places out of their irresponsible behaviour. Dr. Bongau said that the main objective of the program was to strengthen section 4 COPTA Act 2003 "No smoking in public places" and to strengthen awareness to protect non-smokers from danger of smoking who are exposed to secondhand smokers in the office, work place and children at home.

The program was chaired by Dr. Bongau Phom, District Nodal official NTCP Longleng.
