Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the exhibition stalls on the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day celebration at the Secretariat Plaza, Kohima on 26th January 2022. There were 16 stalls set up by various departments of the State Government. The Chief Minister along with his lady wife, Kaisa Rio and other dignitaries visited all the stalls and interacted with the officials present.
The Department of Agriculture had put up on display various farming equipments and seeds for the benefit of farmers across the State. Land Resources Department showcased the departments’ activities and also gave the visitors different taste of Nagaland grown coffee.
Information on fish farming, feeds and other related activities were also on display at the Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Department. Local fish were also on sale at the exhibition by the Department.
The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services displayed products by Milk Cooperative of Nagaland (MILKCON), and poultry products reared and feeds manufactured by the Department.
Department of Horticulture exhibited various indigenous horti products of the State. Rusoma orange, Chansu organic kiwi, Longnak pineapple were also on display. Produce of Naga Hills, a food processing unit exhibited their products, like cinnamon, Naga King Chilli, sesame oil. Bamboo leave tea processed by the unit, which it claims is the only one in Nagaland at present was also exhibited. The unit is also planning to start an essential oil manufacturing unit at Piphema village very soon.
The Department of Sericulture stall exhibited silk shawls, mekhela and textiles produced from cocoons of larvae of mulberry silkworm fed in castor plant. The castor plant can also provide castor seeds through which castor oils can be sourced which has a numerous health benefits. The Department is also encouraging the weavers to opt for natural dyes in manufacturing textiles.
The Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission under the Rural Development department displayed products such as cushion cover, table runner, table mat, bags, baby diaper and sanitary napkin manufactured by Community Learning & Business Resource Centre (CLBRC). The centre is initiated by SHGs and based in Jalukie. Coordinator, CLBRC, K. Ramzeupeule shared that the centre’s mission is to educate and empower the rural women by imparting training on cutting, tailoring and weaving.
The Department of Information & Public Relations set up a photo exhibition based on activities related to Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav undertaken in all the districts of Nagaland.
The Department of Industries & Commerce, Information & Technology, Science & Technology, Nagaland Legal Services Authority, Health & Family Welfare, Soil & Water Conservation also set up their respective stalls highlighting their departmental activities and programmes.
