The Department of School Education Nagaland, Kohima, hosted the State-level Teachers' Day Celebration on September 5, 2023, at the NBCC Convention Hall, Kohima. The event was graced by various dignitaries who acknowledged the outstanding contributions of teachers and discussed key developments in the education sector.

Advisor School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome extended best wishes to all the teachers. He highlighted the significance of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, who inaugurated the state of Nagaland in 1963, and discussed the progress of education in Nagaland and India as a whole, particularly in light of the new education policy.

Dr. Yhome also made important announcements, including the discontinuation of regular classes on Saturdays in both private and government schools. Additionally, he emphasized giving preference to students from government high schools for admission to government higher secondary schools. He revealed plans for district-wise and inter-district sports meets to identify and nurture talents for national and international representation. Collaborations with the Nagaland Olympic Association and the Department of Youth Resources & Sports were mentioned to enhance common sports initiatives.

Dr. Yhome encouraged rural schools to adjust class timings according to seasonal variations and urged schools and teachers to combat drug abuse. Starting from the next academic year, the Department of Health and Family Welfare will introduce mandatory School Children Health Cards. The role of "Teacher In-Charge" in primary schools will be replaced with a new designation, and a "Common Teachers Training" program will be introduced. Consultation with SCERT, NBSE, Samagra Shiksha, and other line departments are also in process to prevent duplication.

Kevileno Angami, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland Department of School Education & SCERT, thanked all teachers for their invaluable contributions to the education ecosystem and society. She emphasized the role of teachers as role models for students in imparting values, ethics, critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, life skills, and out-of-the-box thinking.

Thavaseelan. K, IAS, Principal Director, School Education congratulated the teachers selected for the State-level Teachers Award, 2023. He also expressed his gratitude to Advisor Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome for his exceptional leadership in enhancing the education system.

In a significant development during the event, Dr. Yhome launched the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK), a centralized management system aimed at monitoring the real-time status of various projects and activities within the School Education Department and its sister organizations. The VSK's primary objective is to provide valuable insights and recommendations to enhance the educational system and ensure improved learning outcomes for students.
