STATE-LEVEL COMMITTEE MEETING FOR ORGANISING CHESS OLYMPIAD TORCH RELAY HELD

As part of the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebration, the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay will be held at 'The Heritage's (Old DC Bungalow), Kohima on 11th July 2022.

In this regard, a meeting of the State level Committee for coordination and necessary logistic arrangement for the upcoming Relay chaired by the Secretary, Youth Resources & Sports, Wezope Kenye IAS was held in his office Chamber on 07th July 2022.

The meeting chalked out the logistics arrangement and work distribution for organizing the event. The Chairman requested all the stakeholders and government departments to note the importance of the event and execute their parts efficiently for the successful conduct of the event.

The 14th edition of the Chess Olympiad has been awarded by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to the All India Chess Federation (AICF) and is being held at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu from 28th July to 9th August 2022. In this edition, FIDE has instituted the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay to mark the event being held in India, the land where Chess originated and has also decided that the Olympiad Torch Relay will start from India for all future Chess Olympiads. To mark this historic occasion, it has been decided to have the Torch Relay covering 75 iconic locations of the country, as part of the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebrations to spread awareness about sports and also the Chess Olympiad.
