The inaugural function of the Sükrünye festival by the Chakhesang Tribe was held at the local ground Phek District Hq. on 14th January 2023.

The occasion was graced by the Inaugural Guest, Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu MLA, Leader of the NPF legislature party.

Azo Nienu delivered Sükrünye greetings on behalf of the Government of Nagaland to all Chakhesang people, and he also expressed gratitude to the Phek Town Youth Society and Nehru Yuva Kendra Phek for organizing the Sükrünye festival in a grand manner.

He shared about the objective of the festival and said that the Sükrünye festival is to renew the body and soul and make oneself holy by cleansing the body and soul of the village as a whole, and bringing forth blessing and unity amongst all communities of Nagaland.

He called upon them to cleanse their bodies and souls in the Christian spirit, forgive and forget their past deeds, and strengthen the Naga brotherhood.

Sükrünye greetings and invocation prayer were delivered and pronounced by Khosapa Venu, President of Phek Town Public Forum, and Dr. Vezhoto Soho, Associate Pastor PTBC, Vepasa Venuh and friends Presented a special song.

Traditional fire making and Lighting of Sükrünye Torch, Top Fight, Catapult Shooting, Bamboo Pole Race, Greased Bamboo Pole Climbing, and other games were the highlights of the celebration.

All Heads of the Offices in the District Hq. attended the inaugural function of the Sükrünye festival.
