A one-day teacher’s training on Tobacco Free Educational Institution (TOFEI) was conducted, following COVID-19 SOPs, at Sacred Heart School, Mon on 30th June 2021. The training was organized by District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Mon. The programme consists of two sessions.

The first session was on “Adverse effects of Tobacco consumption” and the second session was on “TOFEI”. District Nodal Officer, NTCP Mon, Dr.I. Simon Sumi, emphasized on how the use and consumption of tobacco products affects the human body. He also stressed on how the consumption of tobacco contribute in spreading Coronavirus in our community.

District Consultant, NTCP Mon, E. Nyeamying Konyak briefed about guidelines of TOFEI. She elaborated on the criteria for the school to declare as tobacco free and the initiative an institution can take up after the declaration of Tobacco Free School.

Seven Schools were declared as Tobacco Free School and the TOFEI Certificate was handed over to the respective schools. The name of the schools declared as tobacco Free were- Sacred Heart School Mon, Green Valley School Mon, Green Mount School Mon, Eastern School Mon, Eastwood School Mon, Police Unit School Mon and Holy Cross School Mon.

27 teachers and head of the institution from different schools attended the training.
