WOKHA:
The District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC), Wokha officially launched the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0 on 9 October 2025, as part of a nationwide initiative under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The campaign will run for 60 days, concluding on 7th December 2025, with the objective of promoting tobacco-free lifestyles among youth and students.
The launching programme was graced by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Renbomo Ezung as the special guest. In his address, the ADC emphasized the short-term and long-term impacts of tobacco use, urging young people to abstain from tobacco consumption and addiction. He commended the efforts of the District Tobacco Control Cell for its continued commitment towards creating tobacco-free zones and fostering public health awareness.
Chief Medical Officer, Wokha, Dr. Thungchanbemo Ezung delivered a brief speech highlighting the medical concerns associated with tobacco use, including addiction and its adverse health consequences. He encouraged the youth to make informed choices and avoid harmful substances.
Dental Surgeon, UPHC Wokha, Dr. Thungrhoni Kikon outlined the key objectives of the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0, which include:
- Raising awareness about the dangers of tobacco use among adolescents and young adults
- Promoting behavioural change through education and community engagement
- Strengthening enforcement of tobacco control laws in educational institutions and public spaces
- Encouraging peer-led initiatives to sustain tobacco-free environments
The welcome address was delivered by Principal, Mount Tiyi College Wokha, Dr. Bwenyhunle Khing, and the programme was chaired by Psychologist, DTCC Wokha, Tshopeü Khutsoh.
The campaign marks a significant step in the district’s ongoing efforts to safeguard youth from the harmful effects of tobacco and promote a healthier future.
