The three-day Tokhu Emong cum Mini Hornbill festival culminated on the 7th November 2021 at local ground, Wokha with Advisor for Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, Yanthan said Nagas are blessed with rich cultural heritage and to promote our rich heritage, the Nagaland Government has declared Nagaland as the “Land Of Festival” where by the Government decided to conduct Mini Hornbill festivals coinciding with other tribal festivals.

Yanthan also called for preservation of cultural heritage and to let the spirit of friendship and brotherhood prevail among the people. He called upon the gathering to rejuvenate and re-dedicate their lives for a brighter future and asked them to emulate the good deeds and examples set by the forefathers and make use of the resources and make themselves self-sustainable.

Tokhu Emong is the biggest festival of the Lothas, observed at the end of the agriculture year following the harvest, with the harvest over and the granaries full the people now take respite from the sweating toils and settle down to enjoy the fruits of the hard labour with leisure. It is also a time for thanksgiving, reconciliation, sharing and accommodating each other, the most beautiful aspect is that the past rancors are forgiven, friendship are renewed, new ties are established and bonds of close intimacy are formed. The final day of the Tokhu Emong is called Loroe Tokhu meaning festival of damsels, quite similar to that of the other neighbouring tribes.

The function was chaired by Vice Chairman, Lotha Hoho, Mhonchumo Lotha.  Highlights of the function included folk dance by Rengma cultural trouped Tesophenyu Village and N. Longidang cultural troupe.
