The opening programme of the Tokhü Emong Mini Hornbill Festival was held at Public Ground, Wokha on 5th November 2025 with MLA & Chairman of SDPDB Bhandari, Achumbemo Kikon, gracing the occasion as the Special Guest.
Kikon in his address emphasized the importance of responsibility and critical thinking as tools to pave the way for growth and prosperity. He reflected on the historical significance of the Tokhü Emong Festival, which has been celebrated since time immemorial, and highlighted its role in fostering unity and progress within the Lotha community.
He spoke on the need for societal transformation, improved relationships, and the nurturing of true brotherhood through enlightened minds. Stressing the importance of community development, he called for collective efforts to create social impact, including sanitation initiatives across Wokha district. He linked these efforts to climate resilience and sustainable development, urging citizens to act as guiding lights within their communities.
Kikon also encouraged Lotha citizens and intellectuals to lead with clarity and compassion, promoting active participation across Naga society.
The programme was led by President Lotha Students' Union, Lirhonthung Kithan, with a welcome address delivered by the Advisor of Lotha Hoho, Thungjamo Erui, and a special folk song performed by Wokha Town Mekokla Ekhung.
Following the formal programme, Achumbemo Kikon inaugurated the festival stalls, and various folk song competitions and cultural activities were held, marking the beginning of the celebration.
Tokhü Emong is the premier harvest festival of the Lotha Naga community, celebrated annually in the first week of November. It marks the end of the agricultural season and is a time of thanksgiving, reconciliation, and renewal of bonds among families and villages. Traditionally, the festival is observed with feasting, folk songs, dances, and exchange of gifts, Tokhü Emong reflects the rich cultural heritage and communal spirit of the Lothas. Beyond celebration, Tokhü Emong also serves as a platform for unity, social reflection, and envisioning progress within the community.
