Former Chief Minister & opposition leaders, T.R. Zeliang visited district hospital Peren on 20th April 2020 and interacted with Medical staffs and District Administration. After inspecting COVID-19 isolation ward and Personal protective Equipments (PPEs), T.R. Zeliang said that priority must be given to doctors and nurses by providing with best equipment to deal with patients. He directed CMO Peren to request Principle Director to implement quality double layers protective equipments for Doctors in the hospital.

A review meeting was also held at Old St. Higher Sec. School auditorium hall with various civil workers, HoDs, frontal NGO leaders, Tribal apex bodies Medical staffs & police.  T.R. Zeliang in his short speech extended gratitude towards all the gathering presence in the meeting. He said being a citizen of the district he is also included to monitor and to combat against the pandemic. To fight against the deadly COVID-19 citizens should extend full support and efforts to follow the instructions & guidelines given by the WHO & Government, he added.

Zeliang mentioned that because of the nationwide lockdown people from different society and community are suffering and that free essential commodities for those citizens who are entitled to receive will be distributed in time. He further commented that under food security act, priority house hold one ration card per head/family are entitled to receive 5 kg of Rice per month and under AAY scheme, either widow or big family are entitled to get 35 kg per month and the two schemes need to reach to needy people at this critical time. Therefore he requested the concern department to cross-check the guidelines. He also said that opposition party would continue to render unceasing support to the Government and urged the gathering to work hand in hand together with District Administration, medical team & police to avoid any unprecedented incidents in future.

Besides the food security act T.R. Zeliang said Prime minister of India has launched a new scheme where rice will be distributed to ration card holders per head 5kg free of cost and the scheme will continue three months effecting from April. Meanwhile he also requested the Administration and Sub- Divisional Taskforce to continue helping the stranded students & non local migrants and non-rations card holders in the district. Zeliang also appealed the Administration and concern village authorities to completely seal every exit & entry point of the border areas.

Civil organization & other frontline workers also expressed gratitude to DC Peren, Sentiwapang Aier and MLA T.R. Zeliang for extending assistance to the people of Peren in the time of crisis.
