Training program and Input Distribution were conducted at Lotsu and Renthan Villages under Wokha District Nagaland on 4th & 5th June 2022 by ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research (DCFR), Bhimtal in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Govt. of Nagaland.
Two training, awareness, and input distribution campaigns were conducted at Lotsu Village in Sanis Block and Renthan Village in Bhandari block under Wokha District by ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal under NEH activity in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Nagaland. The program was initiated to improve the livelihood and income generation of the economically backward villagers through fish farming activities. The highlight of the program was to create awareness through training and distribution of fish farming inputs to increase the productivity of the fish farmers.
The inaugural programme at Lotsu Village was hosted by Rulanthung Ezung, District Fishery Officer, Wokha. Neitho-o Kuotsu, Joint Director, Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources highlighted the objective of the program and the interventions of ICAR-DCFR in Nagaland. He extended gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the Department to the Director, ICAR-DCFR, and his team of scientists for their constant support.
Dr. R. S. Haldar, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal encouraged the villagers to take up fish farming on a scientific line to supplement their income.
The meeting was also attended by R. Thechamo Ovuwg, Chairman, Lotsu Village Council, and Mhonthung Fishery Inspector, Wokha. A group of 25 fish farmers attended the training cum awareness campaign. Joint Director and Dr. Haldar deliberated on various aspects of fish farming and had a comprehensive interaction with the fish farmers. The farmers were made aware of the benefits of integrated fish farming and how it could be used for generating income. The awareness programme concluded with the distribution of 2500 kg carp feed, 25 hand nets, and 25 cast nets to 25 fish farmers of Lotsu Village.
The second programme was held on 5th June 2022 at Renthan village, T.Sulanthung, SDO (Civil) Bhandari Block, and Tsemomo Lotha, Chairman, Renthan Village Council graced the occasion. Dr. Haldar, CTO trained the fish farming community and created awareness on “Integrated Fish Farming”. He also explained in depth the economic benefits integrated fish farming could provide. The programme was attended by 25 fish farmers of Renthan Village and 2500 kg carp feed, 25 hand nets, and 25 cast nets were provided to the fish farmer by ICAR-DCFR under NEH activity.
