A two-day leadership workshop was conducted on the 19th and 20th of June 2025 at the Office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Kohima. The workshop was organized for officers of the Department of Cooperation, Government of Nagaland, from the rank of SRCS and above, including ministerial staff from the Head Office on the first day.
Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Cooperation, Orenthung Lotha graced the inaugural session as the special guest. In his keynote address, he emphasized the need for strong leadership, ethical governance, and forward-thinking strategies to strengthen the cooperative movement in Nagaland. Further, he encouraged the department officials the need to envision and chalk out goals and targets for the coming days.
The workshop featured four technical sessions on the first day, covering key areas such as Conduct, Discipline & Appeal Rules by Lithrila Under Secretary, P & AR, Responsibilities of government servants by Asalie Lese, Dy. Secretary, ATI, Soft Skills for officers by Meripeni Zares, Under Secretary Home, and office procedures by Rhonthungo Dy. Secretary, Economics & Statistics.
The second day was marked by a vibrant Panel Discussion on the theme “Visioning for the Next Decade”, aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat. Some of the Key Discussions revolved around: Strengthening audit mechanisms and de-registering non-functional cooperatives, Organizing and registering new viable cooperatives, Promoting convergence with other departments and organizations, and Building vibrant and self-sustaining cooperative societies.
The session concluded with a consensus on actionable steps including eliminating fictitious audits, verifying member authenticity, and linking cooperatives with startups and entrepreneurs to enhance market access.
The workshop concluded on a high note, with participants expressing commitment to implement the learnings and strategies discussed, and to drive meaningful transformation in the cooperative sector.
