Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India, Nityanand Rai, concluded a two- day visit to Mokokchung district from 5th to 6th July 2026, during which he visited Ungma village and reviewed key development and Cultural initiatives.
On his arrived at Ungma village, the minister interacted with members of the village council at the community hall.
Addressing the gathering, Rai remarked that the strength and beauty of India lie in its rich diversity where every region contributes unique traditions, customs and cultural heritage collectively reflecting the country’s vibrant identity.
Acknowledging the presence of Padma Shree Awardee Guru Sangyusang Pongener, the minister lauded his outstanding contribution towards preserving and promoting the traditional art and culture of the community. He stated that such efforts play a vital role in ensuring that future generations remain connected to their cultural heritage and identity. The minister further stated that the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is committed to achieving inclusive growth and equitable development across all region of the country under the vision of Viksit Bharat.
During the visit the Minister inspected the library building cum museum at Ungma village where he appreciated the initiatives taken by the village to preserve and showcase the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Ao community and Nagaland. He also visited the ongoing construction of hospital building at Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, being undertaken under the Purvotta Sampark Setu programme of the Ministry of Development of North East Region (MDoNER).
