The upgraded 2×100 MVA power sub-station Nagarjan, Dimapur which caters to entire Dimapur and Peren districts was formally inaugurated by Advisor, Power, H. Tovihoto Ayemi, on 9th December 2020.
Addressing the inaugural programme Advisor, said that the construction of the new 2×100 MVA sub-station is yet another remarkable achievement of Power Department. He thanked the engineers and all the people for their support to enable the government to fulfil the vision of providing uninterrupted power supply all over Nagaland. He was convinced that with the upgradation of 132/66/33 KV sub-station to 2×100 MVA at Nagarjan, the socio economic condition of the people will also improve.
He further urged all officers and staff of the power department to work tirelessly with utmost dedication for overall improvement of the society and to create a better tomorrow for future generation. Advisor also sought the support of the people to extend fullest cooperation especially in payment of electricity bill.
Principal Secretary, Power, Er. KD Vizo, who also spoke at the function said that the domestic consumption constitutes about 85% of the total consumption and the trend over the last 10years has shown an increase of 7-10% in the normal demand annually and by 2021 the power demand of 200MW is expected from industrial initiatives in the state therefore by 2021 the state power demand will touch 450MW.
Vizo also maintained that the present installed generation capacity of the state from small hydro project is 26.74 MW and the bulk of state power requirement is being purchased from the Central PSU generating units operating in the north eastern region and eastern region. However, due to shortfall of hydro power generation in eastern region the department is rationing the supply of electricity throughout the state on a rational basis and there is now tremendous pressure to have our own hydro power generation stations, he said and further appealed to the general public to extend cooperation in places where hydro power stations are coming up.
Engineer in-chief, Power, Er. Shikari Sema, in his technical report mentioned that DoNER sanctioned rupees 17.05 crores which could installed only one 100MVA, 132/66KV transformer in March 2015 which provided some relief for some time but with rapid load growth the transformer got overloaded. Further, at the voltage level of 66/33kv, 20MVA transformer got overloaded and one transformer got damaged on November 12, 2017 and to mitigate the power crisis the state government sanctioned rupees 14.96 crores from the state resources and the installation of 100MVA, 132/33kv transformer was completed.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Chief Engineer (D&R), Er. Moa Aier while vote of thanks was proposed by Chief Engineer (T&G), Er. N. Mozhui.
