The Entrepreneurs Associates (EA) in collaboration with District Administration Mon organised the Mon Chapter of Upliftment of Women Street Vendors (UWSVs) on 9th February 2022 at Council Hall, Mon.
Speaking about EA and the UWSVs Programme, Administrative Coordinator, EA, Yutho Sangtam highlighted the aims, objectives and various programmes initiated by the NGO.
Yutho stated that the UWSVs programme will be implemented in all the Districts with the primary aim to bring progress in the economic condition and living standard of the street vendors. EA tries to achieve this progress by guiding them to save their daily earnings, providing interest free loans and taking initiatives to provide better health care for them, she added.
Dy.CMO Mon, Dr. Rongsennungla spoke on general health and wellness for women with special emphasis on care during the pandemic. She urged the gathering to prioritize on their health and overall wellbeing. She highlighted benefits of government programmes like Maternal Health Program (JSSK) and Ayushman Bharat, urging the women vendors to avail them. She further highlighted the various covid appropriate behaviors and the importance of taking the vaccine.
In his exhortation speech, ADC Mon and Administrator, Mon Town Council, Y. Chingyak Konyak, NCS, thanked the EA team for taking such an initiative in the District. He stated that the initiative would bring a positive impact on the Konyak society and requested the EA team to set up a branch office in Mon so that the program may be implemented at the earliest. He emphasised on the dignity of labour and encouraged the vendors not to think less of themselves but rather to think about how their service is benefitting the general public in Mon as well as those villagers from who they purchase the products. He requested the vendors to set up their shops on the designated market areas instead of random crowed road sides in order to avoid any untoward incidents or accidents.
He highlighted the details of PM Svanidhi which provides loan to the vendors at a subsidized interest rate and also the benefits e-Shram portal, urging them to avail the benefits while assuring them that his office will be open for any problems that they may face in the process. He emphasised on avoiding the use of plastic and keeping their environment clean and hygienic.
Entrepreneurs Associates existing project in the District is a FPC with 500 farmers producing ginger in 6 villages in Wakching block.
