Vikepelhu Lucas Meyase retired Director of Higher Secondary Education, Nagaland passed away after brief illness. He was 73. He left behind wife, seven children with four boys and three girls and two grandchildren. Meyase was laid to rest at his private residence Sepfὓzou, Kohima on 17th August 2021.

He was popularly remembered for his role youth leader, speaker and counsellor. Lucas Meyase was elected and served as president of Angami Catholic Youth Association, Angami Catholic Union and Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN). Meyase was an executive member of North- East Regional Youth Commission (NERYC) and also served in various capacities in the All-India Catholic University Federation (AICUF).

Lucas Meyase was served for many years as a schoolteacher at the Baptist High School, Kohima. He also taught in St John Bosco School, Khonoma, and Govt. High School (presently Higher Secondary), Kohima. He was founded Kohima Tutorial High School conducted evening classes for school dropouts and working people. He served different capacities like Assistant Director, District Education Officer and retired as Director of Higher Secondary Education in 2013.

Many sent condolence messages including Principal Director of School Education, Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Bishop of Kohima, Catholic Association of Nagaland, Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement and various organisations.

Funeral rite was administered by Rev Fr Richard Fernandes, Parish Priest of St Francis de Sales Parish Kohima. Speeches were delivered by CAN, Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement and Teisovi Gerard Meyase on behalf of the family. Petekhriezo Francis, Catechist of St Francis de Sales Parish, Kohima read out the words of God. The last journey of Lucas Meyase ceremony was presided by L Kenneth Punyὓ, Assistant Professor of Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma.
