On 18th January 2023, more than 500 volunteers from National Cadet Corps (NCC), Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), National Service Scheme (NSS), and Assam Rifles participated in the walkathon held during the Iconic Events Week in honour of the 126th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The walkathon was flagged off by Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, IAS from Indra Gandhi Stadium, Kohima. Speaking on the occasion Sinha said that the walkathon was organized to give a befitting honour to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, whose birthday anniversary falls on 23rd January. He said that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was one of the most patriotic and loved freedom fighters in the Nation. Sinha also said that Netaji has a close connection with the Naga people when he and the Indian National Army came and stayed in Nagaland during the II World War.
Sinha said that there were morning programs in two villages in the Phek district, Chesezu village and Ruzazho village where the National Flag was hoisted. He said that the walkathon will culminate at the Secretariat Plaza where 126 flags will be hoisted and also a painting and drawing competition will be held at Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima wherein 126 students from various schools from Kohima will participate. The evening function will be held at Capital Cultural Hall at 4 PM where various cultural troupes will perform during the function.
The walkathon culminated at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza.
