Advisor for Social Welfare, Wangpang Konyak graced the Eye camp for Senior Citizens as Chief Guest on 6th November 2025 at District Hospital, Mon. The programme was jointly organised by the Department of Social Welfare and Mercy Eye Centre Dimapur Supported by District Hospital, Mon.
Konyak in his address said that it’s a privilege for him to be a part of this restoring eyesight programme to our elderly people. It reminds us that elders are not left behind. The Social Welfare department is to uplift vulnerable groups by providing social assistance, meeting nutritional standards, and protecting those at risk. This includes assisting the elderly, he added.
He highlighted the government schemes provided by the department like Old Age Pension, Elderly Helpline and Charity Care for the elderly people, and also informed that the government is planning to establish an Old Age Home in every district. He also urged the elders to follow Doctor’s advice properly for their speedy recovery. He extended his gratitude to the Mercy Eye Centre Dimapur, Dr. Chingkup Konyak and their team and also District Hospital, Mon for their cooperation in organising this camp. He also thanks the Deputy Commissioner Mon for his convenience.
Deputy Commissioner Mon, Wennyei Konyak in his short speech, extended his gratitude to the Advisor Social Welfare Department, Mercy Eye Centre Dimapur and the District Hospital, Mon for organising this camp. He mentioned that the blindness problem in our society is because of lack of facilities and lack of awareness. He therefore encouraged the gathering to go for a timely check-up to have a beautiful and comfortable life.
Dr. Ngopole Keviechu, DTO Mon shared about the importance of eyesight and the medication of the eye problem, while Dr. Chingkup, Mercy Eye Centre, Dimapur explained on the overview of the camp.
The Programme was chaired by Khonbeni Jami, CDPO Phomching, and welcome address was delivered by T. Yanlem, District Welfare Officer, Mon. Invocation was pronounced by David Konyak, Chaplain District Hospital, Mon, and culminated with a vote of thanks by Amilo Yanthan, CDPO Tizit.
