In commemoration with the AzadikaAmritMahaUtsav, celebrating 75 years of India's independence, a culmination programme for formerly labelled, Integrated Water Management Programme (IWMP) now known as Prime Minister KrishiSinchayeeYojna-Watershed Development Component (WDC-PMKSY) batch IV to VI for Zunheboto district was organised on 30th September at town hall Zunheboto by Land Resource Department (LRD).
Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto, Peter Lichamo, speaking as the guest of honour said that, he has been witnessing what the Land Resource Department,Zunheboto has been doing for the welfare of the farmers. He retrospected on how popular coffee plantation was way back in 1980's, but failed because of unavailability of market.
He urged the gathering to put an end to the negative mentality, doubting the schemes being initiated by the government and added that schemes are being initiated for the welfare of the farmers.
District Project Officer, Zunheboto V. VikughaSema while highlighting the project said that it was to restore the ecological balance by harnessing, conserving and developing degraded natural resources such as soil, vegetative cover and water. He added that the outcomes are for prevention of soil erosions, regeneration of natural vegetations, rain water harvesting and recharging of the ground water table which enables multi-cropings and introduction of diverse agro-based activities, which help to provide sustainable livelihoods to the people residing in the watershed area.
The program was chaired by Assistant Inspector LRD, Roselyn Chishi while vote of thanks was delivered by N. KheshitoAwomi.
