The monthly District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meeting for the month of September was held at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Satsuphen, Wokha on 15th September 2023.

Advisor for Agriculture & Chairman DPDB Wokha, Mhathung Yanthan, MLA Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe and Achumbemo Kikon also attended the meeting.

KVK Wokha In-charge. Sr. Scientist, Dr. Moa Akhum highlighted activities of KVK in the district said that KVK Wokha Centre was established in the year 2006 and is manned by six (6) specialists, namely, animal science, agronomist, horticulture, agriculture extension, soil science, plant & genetic and programme assistant. The functional system of KVK is based on research based development. He said that the objective of KVK in the district is to disseminate information to the farmers on farm trails, front line demonstration, capacity building training as well as vocational training to help framers on improvement of their productivity through Agri and Allied sector including Horticulture.

Special Invitees to the meeting representing ICAR (Medziphema) Nagaland, Dr. Mahek Singh said that ICAR Centre Nagaland was established in 1975 and is working on Agri& Allied sectors including Horticulture. He said the Centre is particularly a research organisation to developed agricultural technology specified to different climate zones of Nagaland and the Centre transfers those technologies to the farmers for the agriculture activities, animal farming etc. and help the farmers of the state for economic sustainability.

Chairman, DPDB, Mhathung Yanthan in his remark thanked the KVK Centre for hosting the programme and he also welcomed the ICAR representatives in the meeting. While lauding the activities of KVK in Wokha District, Yanthan also urged all the Agri & Allied departments to work in tandem with the KVK. He added that a committed institution like KVK which has so much facilities and activities, there is a need to support and extend cooperation with the Centre.

MLA, Achumbemo Kikon, while speaking at the programme highlighted on the issues raised by him during the recently concluded Assembly Session. MLA, Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, while thanking KVK for hosting the meeting, he assured the centre that in his own capacity, he will improve the approach road from KVK Centre to NH-2. 

State Programme Manager, Neithonuo Leigise highlighted on Elder Line Nagaland, a National Helpline for senior citizens and added that the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MoSJE), Govt. of India, the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) &  the respective State Governments through the Department of Social Welfare are launching the National Helpline for Senior Citizens –Elder Line- Toll Free No.14567, with the objective of expeditiously attending to the complaints and grievances of the senior citizens. The Board also recommended for registration of Mt. Morarashan Club, Riphyim Society. The Board also review on aspirational villagers and deliberated on preparation on celebration of 50 years Golden Jubilee of Wokha District.
