The inaugural function of the 45-day skill up gradation on handloom weaving under the Samarth Scheme began on 8th Sept 2022 at Blue Hill Colony Wokha with SDO (C) Tsidi as the special guest.

The scheme is aimed to promote skilling and skill up-gradation in traditional sectors; Charity Club Multipurpose Society Wokha will be the implementing partner for the Wokha district for this training programme.

Tsidi, while addressing the trainees, lauded the Ministry of Textiles for organizing such programmes to upgrade skills in the field of handloom and weaving, encouraging the trainees he said that instead of only focusing on our traditional method, we have to follow up with the modern machinery and work hard.

Assistant Director (Weaving) Weavers Service Centre, Dimapur, Naresh Jambhulkar said the Institute implements a cluster development model to stimulate dormant clusters by intervening in the areas of production, technology, marketing, and skill development to enhance productivity, competitiveness with collective efforts and initiatives of individuals units.

He also encouraged the trainees to make proper use of the 45 days training programme and get maximum benefits when the government is providing such opportunities at their doorstep and the government is even ready to exhibit and market their products.

Chairman Lotha Hoho, Mhondamo Ovung said the Ministry of Textiles imparting training is a very good initiative, as skill knowledge is one of the key components for the sustenance of one’s livelihood and boosting the economy of the county. 

President, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Thungbeni Ngullie, said such training will make women independent and expressed gratitude. Looking at the unemployment issue, she opined that such initiatives will ease and open opportunities to become self-dependent and sufficient.

The inaugural function was chaired by Skill Development Officer, Wokha MGN Fellow, Anuranjan Singh.
