Along with the rest of the world, Zunheboto District observed World Consumer Rights Day and officially launched the Consumer Rights Organisation, Zunheboto division, administered by DC Zunheboto, Peter Lichamo on 15th March 2021 at VDB hall.
The DC congratulated CRO Zunheboto division for successful formation and launch of CRO at the district. He encouraged CRO to tie up with the administration, ZTC and also chamber of commerce and industries and reminded that the focus should not only be at the district level but must concentrate at the sub-divisions as well.
State President CRO, James Jungio deliberated that CRO is a national registered organization which was founded at Delhi with an aim to spread awareness on consumer rights and protections and was subsequently formed and launched at Kohima on 7th January 2019. He mentioned that, CRO in collaboration with the State Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, volunteers to mitigate corruptions from all aspects possible at the state. With the formation of CRO Zunheboto division, the organisation would be regularly checking on violations of consumer rights, sensitising on unawareness of rights and ignorance of rights etc. The organization also aims to work on educating the consumers on issues like, safety of school children travelling on school buses, protection of women and children rights, education on consumer laws, suggestions on creating a healthy atmosphere at the prisons, rights of senior citizens, malpractices by street vendors, assistance in disaster management etc.
Jungio added that CRO had been working during the pandemic, checking the prices on essential commodities at the entire state. Complete eradication of all sorts of corruptions at the state and districts are what CRO is working on, he added. He also informed the gathering that, with the collaboration of the State Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, CRO aims to organise awareness programmes in all the districts and sub-divisions in the year 2021-22, for which he appealed to the district administration and law enforcing agencies for valuable cooperation and assistance.
Speech on Consumer Protection Act was delivered by Public Prosecutor(PP) Khetoholi Yeptho.
Delivering the keynote address, Advisor CRO Dr. Huskha Yepthomi said that along with the International Red Cross Society, Consumer Rights Organisation is also one of the most important organizations.
The CRO Zunheboto division is headed by Anthony Aye as the President, GS Inoka Yepthomi, Vice President, Toshikhe Sumi and Katolu Yepthomi, legal advisor-Advisor Tovi Yeptho and Pitoka Achumi, Advisor Dr Huskha Yepthomi, Treasurer Nihoto Achumi, Joint Secretary Toshepu Assumi, Akamu and Mika Zhimo, org/ Secretary Kaliho Muru and Hukheshe and Zhekiho Yeptho, Zhepito Achumi,Khekuto Achumi and Kikheshe Yeptho as executive members.
